As a person ages, wrinkles in the skin can develop as a result of gravity and sun damage. Gravity and the shifting of tissue with aging can also create deeper creases around the nose and cheeks (nasolabial folds) and at the corners of the mouth. These wrinkles and deep creases, referred to as “static lines,” often cause much distress and concern to many who want to maintain their youthful appearance.
For these “static lines,” especially around the nose and mouth, the deep creases are there even without muscle action. To correct these lines, dermal fillers can be used to build up what is lost in order to plump up the tissue underneath and around the lines to eliminate the creases. The dermal fillers are mostly made of Hyaluronic Acids (HA), a natural building material in our body. These HA based dermal fillers, such as Restylane, Prevelle, and Perlane, have the tissue filling effect lasting from three to twelve months. There are other dermal fillers that are calcium based. All of them function as tissue building material to help eliminate the deep creases that cause aesthetic concerns.
