Dr. Michael Lau presented a paper recently in Prague, Czech Republic teaching how to perform vaginal rejuvenation surgery to achieve optimal aesthetic and functional results, using only local anesthesia.
Paper: Michael Lau, Combined labioplasty and colpoperineoplasty (surgical “vaginal rejuvenation”) using only local anesthesia, 22nd Congress, European Society for Sexual Medicine, January 2020, Prague, Czech Republic.
Dr. Lau presented to an audience of vaginal plastic surgeons, urologists, and sexual medicine specialists at the 22nd Congress of the European Society for Sexual Medicine on January 25th, 2020, in Prague, Czech Republic. Dr. Lau demonstrated that vaginal rejuvenation surgery and labioplasty can be done using only local anesthesia, thus avoiding the risks and costs of prolonged general anesthetics.
He presented his data that over a three year period, he was able to use colpoperineoplasty (surgical vaginal rejuvenation) with just labioplasty minora to achieve optimal aesthetic and functional results – tightening the internal vaginal canal and the external vaginal opening to the pre-childbirth state; reducing the labia minora and making them symmetrical to the expectations of the patient; also, tightening and reducing the bulkiness of the labia majora (eliminating the “camel toe” appearance). Out of 136 cases, only two persons required labioplasty majora in addition to the colpoperineoplasty and labioplasty minora.
Dr. Lau explained that if done properly, the vaginal rejuvenation surgery should include reducing some of the labia majora tissue and thus achieving aesthetic improvement of the labia majora without the need to perform labioplasty majora. Dr. Lau demonstrated by doing vaginal rejuvenation surgery with just labioplasty minora, using only local anesthesia, the operation can be completed in two-and-one-half hours instead of the usual four hours general anesthetic and surgery time for the combined vaginal rejuvenation, labioplasty minora, and labioplasty majora surgery. His method with local anethesia reduces the risks and costs. The presentation was well received.
Dr. Lau also presented another paper at the same ESSM congress outlining his research in female sexual interest/arousal disorder.
