What is Regenerative Aesthetics? 

Regenerate aesthetics technology aims to make you look and feel your younger self. It is more than “anti-aging” – which is just putting you “on-hold”; whereas regenerative aesthetics actually reverses the aging effects, taking you back to your younger self. Dr. Lau has been involved in regenerative aesthetics since his cosmetic surgery training with Dr. Robert Alexander over 25 years ago. Dr. Alexander pioneered the use of PRP (Platelet Rich Plasma) for fat grafting breast augmentation. Since then, PRP and other regenerative agents have been developed to be used for multiple aesthetic applications. Biostimulators are injectable regenerative agents which stimulate the collagen or elastin growth locally and therefore can be used effectively for facial rejuvenation.  Another regenerative agent is Exosomes – extracellular vehicles (EVs) generated by all cells and they carry nucleic acids, proteins, lipids, and metabolites, which are increasingly used for regenerative medicine. Since exosomes are mediators of near and long-distance intercellular communication, the use of exosomes from multipotent stem cells is used to leverage those mediators specializing in regeneration and healing for regenerative aesthetics applications. Some of the biggest challenges in using exosomes for aesthetics are:

 

• The lack of standardization for exosomes – the source of the stem cells, the characterization of the EVs, the preservation of the EVs and the messengers therein, and the effectiveness of said messengers.
• How to take the exosomes from the lab or clinics to formulate a consumer skincare product while preserving the effectiveness of the messengers?

 

Dr. Lau at IntimMed Lab is actively developing strategies and technologies to enable the use of the various regenerative agents effectively in aesthetic procedures and skincare products. A prime example would be the PRP Breast Rejuvenation procedure that is performed in the office using Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP), injected through a thin needle, strategically placed in the breast with minimal discomfort and requires no down time. The treatment rejuvenates the breasts – making them firmer, fuller, with better skin texture, more youthful-looking and “perky”.

What is PRP, (Platelet–Rich Plasma), and why it helps rejuvenation?

• Platelet is a cell component of the blood
• Concentration of the platelet component in the plasma (fluid portion of your own blood) results in a PRP fluid mixture full of powerful growth and healing factors – such as platelet-derived growth factor, fibroblast growth factor, transforming growth factor, interferons, and others.

• • These bioactive factors in PRP can be used to regenerate tissue and cells, thus are used to enhance the effectiveness of micro-needling or laser treatments, also cosmetic surgery
  • PRP is completely safe – it’s your own blood!

Injection of PRP to the breasts, how it is done?

After harvesting the PRP from your own blood-draw (small amount, just couple tablespoons), the PRP fluid is injected through a thin needle rather painlessly, strategically placed into the breasts. You can then go home, with no down time or recovery requirement. The process is illustrated as follows:

Dr. Lau is an internationally known expert in using PRP for rejuvenation. He recently delivered a lecture on PRP Breast Rejuvenation at the Aesthetic & Anti-aging Medicine World Congress 2025 in Bangkok Thailand.

Besides PRP breast rejuvenation, Dr. Lau has perfected the technique for injecting PRP into the subdermal (beneath the skin) area at the back of the hands and feet to make them look youthful again – more full, softer, and covering the veins and tendons. The PRP will also make the skin more youthful with better texture.
